Tuesday Question Of the Week

Get ready, I'm going to bust a little theology on you. I had a friend ask me a question this week that provoked some serious thought and study. Hopefully it will do the same for you.

Tuesday Question of the Week #4

Is it ok to pray to Jesus?

Let's hear it...

Isn't that what we're supposed to do ... Father, Son and Holy Ghost are one in the same, right? Is this a trick question?

Not a trick question... I actually witnessed someone do this recently. It became a discussion with some friends of mine and sparked a pretty good theological discussion.Maybe a better way to phrase the q would be, Is Jesus the intermediary who points us to the father or the object and focus of our prayers?

I like rhetorical discussion! I'd ask the question then, are Father, Son and Holy Ghost one in the same? If so, does it make a difference? But then, I haven't ever prayed to the Holy Ghost/Spirit!

God=Jesus=Holy Spirt=Same.

Oh yeah...and Pi x (R x R) = Area of a circle. But I digress.

So what you are asserting then Keith is that Jesus is God not just the Son of God and that is common knowledge...
Side note: I’m not asserting that Jesus is not God just that its an intriguing concept since most restoration and reformation history teaches Jesus is God.
I'm not sure I can find that language from Christ himself.I think the last thing Christ wanted was to take God's place. In fact Paul only says "Christ, who is God" once in all of his letters. (Romans 9) He later recognizes that Christ did not consider himself to be equal with God but rather only considered himself Lord to the glory of God. (Philippians 2)

"Jesus is God" is probably NOT where I would begin if I were talking to a non-Christian/witnessing to them, but it's certainly a concept (truth I believe) that is taught in Scripture, e.g. John 5:17-18, 21; Heb 1:3; John 12:45; Php 2:9-11 just to name a few.

Your question probably falls under one of those "fine line" discussions; I believe Jesus is God...God and Jesus are one, but where (if it does) does God "end" and Jesus "begin?"

I've always viewed the situation as one God-with three offices or functions (Father-Son-Holy Spirit), but even that is a pretty hard thing to wrap my pea brain around.
